By Jacob It is a privilege to be a member of the camp committee this year. Obviously, one of the crucial parts of camp is the pre - camp activities where the nitty- gritty of the camp activities are put together. In other words, the excitement, entertainment, and games are decided in committee.
Like the good old sayings that says; “behind every successful man there is a woman”. But in the case of our youth camp, I should say, “behind a successful camp there is a committee and array of internal and external advisor plus God Himself.”
Let’s see if I can explain what I meant by the above statement with what I call the 3C’s of the Camp Committee.
3C’s of the Camp CommitteeCommitmentBeing in a committee (which needs to be driven by high creativity and intuition) requires a high level of commitment from the members. I am glad for myself and the other members that 'survived' and were 'revived' just like the theme of the camp suggested. According to James Womack …. “Commitment unlocks the doors of imagination, allows vision, and gives us the "right stuff" to turn our dreams into reality.” We are thriving now, soon the best and reality shall be revealing……… so don’t miss the ‘reality’ of camp!!
CoveringEach member has one or more tasks to carry out within a stipulated time but somehow due to time constraints one might not be able to complete his or her task within the given time. In such a situation the committee assists each other as way to cover up for the task. I personally see this as one of the factors to achieve success as a committee. I love the attitude of covering for one another within the committee, it shows the level of unity and understanding in the committee.
ChristThe greatest joy of all is that we are all united in one body of Christ.
Although I have been around for 3 years, sometimes I would just feel very emotional (emo)/odd in the meeting. And this to some extent does affect my contribution. But thank God for the Love of Christ that binds us together as members. I have been tremendously blessed working with the committee for the second time. I have learnt a lot and I believe it is the same with the other members. It has been a fulfilling time working with people in whom the love of Christ lives.
Finally, I should say the committee has done a great job so far, however, since no one is perfect and learning is a continuous process I believe we would do better if we could just remain open for more knowledge in any area of our lives we may find ourselves in the future.
